When one of the largest law firms in the country, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR), needed help with waterproofing, they awarded the bid to the full service roofing and waterproofing firm, Platinum Roofing Inc., of San Jose, CA.
WSGR's maintenance and facilities department contacted Platinum Roofing to evaluate erosion issues that were creating a safety hazard at their headquarters at 650 Page Mill Road in Palo Alto. Upon inspection, Platinum Roofing discovered that the 14-year-old, pre-cast sidewalk and planter box joints surrounding the building had failed due to water seepage, expansion, and erosion. This not only left unsightly gaps throughout their parking and building egress points, it had created a major risk to their many employees for trips and falls.
Platinum determined that scope the of work would include the removal of 3,500 linear feet of old, existing caulking and zip board, and mechanically wire brushing all residue within the 1/2" to 1 1/2" joints. Platinum then installed a firm, closed-cell, foam backer rod along with two-part urethane caulking manufactured by Sonneborn, and tooled in over the top for the finished product.
Coordination was key to the success of the project; Platinum strategically closed areas during the removal and reinstallation process for the client's convenience. Platinum once again showed its characteristic flexibility by performing most of the work on weekends when a reduced work force would be entering and exiting the building.
With sidewalks and planters looking like new, WSGR has eliminated the water seepage that could freeze and cause cracking, leading to costly replacement. Aesthetics aside, this client is thrilled that they have removed hazards that may have triggered possible litigation.
